sunsetGreetings from Glen Arbor, the Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Leelanau Peninsula!
We’re excited to bring you our first ever Sylvan Inn newsletter.

A golden summer in Glen Arbor has given way to a really nice fall – perfect blue-sky days, apples ripening, salmon spawning & hints of great color coming our way. It’s our favorite time of year with the beaches, dunes, and rivers quiet after a busy summer, beckoning to those of us who are lucky enough to get away. Nights are crisp and clear - just right for a fire on the beach and some wonderful star-gazing. Don’t miss it…the last day we will be open in 2007 is October 19th.

Just for you…some of our “fall favorites” and special offers (see below).

Kayak or canoe the Lower Platter River and at rivers end spend the afternoon on one spectacular beach!

Take in a concert at the Interlochen Center for the Arts Oct 12: "Collage" concert
This concert is one of Interlochen's most popular events. "Collage" offers a rapid-fire sampler of student performances encompassing music, dance, theatre, creative writing, visual arts and film.  It's an exhilarating tour de force that has to be seen to be believed.” Four complimentary tickets will be provided to the first four guests to reserve for this date (2-night minimum stay required).

Enjoy an afternoon drive up the peninsula, stop at the Village Cheese Shanty in Leland to pick up sandwiches (the best, no kidding!), continue on just past Northport to Kilchermans Christmas Cove farm to try a sample of over 240 varieties of “antique apples” and wonderful cider.  Now it’s time for lunch at Peterson Park just a ½ mile away with a spectacular setting on Lake Michigan.

Dine at Trattoria Funistrada, just a 10 minute drive from the Inn. Enjoy Thursday “Pasta Night”; dinner for two + a bottle of wine for $38. Any night at Funistrada is wonderful; Ralph’s favorite entree, duck, is a regular item on the “specials menu” and Rose is pretty well taken with the amazing Veal Saltimboca!

Fishing on Lake Michigan continues to be rewarding! Perhaps the only thing better than having caught your limit is to have Carlson’s Fish House in Leland smoke it for you!  Captain Bob at the Sportsman Shop in Glen Arbor, after a busy summer chartering on the Mariah, is now going strong with steelhead and king salmon. We’ll be happy to vacuum seal and freeze your catch for the drive home.
